Shaking things up for Fall with Devi

Hi Fash-ology community! I'm so excited to write a feature for this amazing site and share my Fall Fashion Finds & Trends with all of you! A little about me, I'm a mom of 3 (humans) and 1 four legged golden doodle (trying to make it 2 but my husband isn’t really going for the 2nd puppy idea)  from Dallas, Texas. I try to keep my fashion finds mom & LIFE friendly, easy, and comfortable.

As women we are always running around, we are multi tasking machines, right?  We all have days when we just don't want to put in the effort to get dressed, because our minds are so overwhelmed with everything we have going on we just “don’t want to think about it.”  As a mom of 3, there have been plenty of days where I have left the house in my bun, sweatpants and POSSIBLY residual mascara from the day before (thats if I even put make up on.) I GET IT.  I still have those days, I really do.

As I’m getting closer to 40 (eek) I’m trying to challenge myself and change habits so I can leave them behind in the 30’s chapter of my life and enter my 40’s with a renewed sense of self. So, on those days when I’m standing in my closet thinking - “ I just don’t have the energy to think about what I’m going to wear….” I force myself to remember this:

It takes just as much time and energy to put on a pair of sweatpants as it does a pair of jeans.

So I’m here to tell you, it’s okay to have that sweat pant, bun and residual make up day - and I’m also here to share with you some wardrobe staples that are cute, on trend, comfortable, EASY ways to feel put together, and budget friendly. Yes…..ALL OF THAT.

Flare/bell bottom jeans - under $80

The first fall trend I’m excited about it the comeback of the flare leg/bell bottom jean! This cut INSTANTLY elongates your legs, this petite girl will take all the help I can get. For all my fellow curvy girls out there - because the style of the jean is “curvy” to begin with, I personally feel this style of jean is the most flattering for us. For reference I’m under 5’2” I ordered these jeans in a “Short” and still need to wear heels.

Both of these jeans are from the same retailer, the only difference between the two is the distressing on the pant leg and the hemline. If you want to wear these to work or be a little more “dressed up” - I would suggest no distressing.

“Not So basic” Basics - under $40

If you are anything like me, throwing on a simple tee shirt is an easy way to leave the house. This season I have been drawn to the “not so basic” basics. I love the t shirts or tops that have some added interest in them through asymmetrical hemlines, cut outs and if you follow me on Instagram you know that I CANT SAY NO to a knotted tee! I think these tops just added a little extra something to what would normally be a basic tee shirt and jean kind of look.

The Bralette - under $40

The newest trend in layering - the bralette. It seems like this was just a natural progression in trends as unusual and asymmetrical necklines became more common, right? Usually we see bralettes being layered under tank tops with the option to put a cardigan over to make the look more seasonal - but the designer in me loved the idea of  layering it under this “not so basic” basic.

Layering with a bralette is also a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit. Take any top or sweater you may have that has an interesting neckline or is a traditional “of the shoulder, throw a bralette under it and it’s a completely different look!

Rules, neutrals and FUN

If there is anything you have noticed from my pictures, I hope it’s that the STATEMENT EARRING is where it’s at this season. A great pair of statement earrings can transform ANY outfit. You can use your earrings to set the tone for your entire look by adding a contrasting color, mixing metals or wearing a classic hoop.

Many people associate this time of year with neutral and warm colors. While I agree, wearing neutrals is safe and sometimes the way an outfit comes together, I also want to let you know this is the year to wear leopard as a neutral! I’m showing this green dress as a example of a look that could have gone either way. It’s more classic with the neutral platform heels I’m wearing in the picture, but the look would instantly become more edgy (and comfortable) had I paired it with my leopard flats. I encourage you to mix leopard in with patterns and have some fun with it! Treat is like a solid, neutral color and your looks with immediately transform.

The last thing I want to discuss ladies….lets just throw out the first “rule" of fall clothing :

white boots.jpg

“Don't wear white after Labor Day.”

Just NO. I know we were raised with this idea and habits are hard to break, but this one has GOT TO GO! If this rule was even a THING anymore…then why would my favorite shoe store be carrying this gorgeous WHITE fall bootie!?!?!? I see this and all the incredible white cardigans and jean and accessories  out there as a sign. We can and should wear white after labor day. And if anyone tells you that you are breaking an age old rule of fashion, just remind them that Coco Chanel broke it too.

These booties are perfect year round. Imagine them with a hot pink t shirt and jeans in the spring…..an off the shoulder sweatshirt and shirt for the fall and a pair of pleather leggings in the winter…..i could go on and on!

Bottom line - WEAR WHITE!!!!

Thank you again Fash-ology community for having me. I hope you found some inspiration in my words and looks!

XOXO,

Devi

Florals for Summer, Groundbreaking

Hello, beautiful! This is our social media marketing intern, Alex's last post. She has completed her 120 internship hours for Fisher College. She is headed into her senior year & is going to explore different facets of the fashion industry. She has been a HUGE help! Alex always has a positive attitude & is an excellent writer. Fashology is sad to see her go but so excited to see what her future holds. Good luck Alex! Take it away!

Hi Dolls!

Hope you fabulous ladies are enjoying this beautiful weather! Summer has finally arrived and if you could not tell by the weather, you most definitely could from all the floral prints fluttering the streets! The typical floral look can get repetitive but with these new floral patterns, you can rock the trend as if it is brand new! Let us get to it, shall we?

Floral patterns will always be a statement in the summer, whether it be on dresses, shorts, tops or even handbags! As the wise Miranda Priestly once said, "Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking." This year, the floral patterns are different from what we have previously seen year after year. The patterns have become more wild and bright and contrast off dark colors.

This dress I found at American Eagle and I absolutely love it! Not only was it a good price but it is also the perfect dress for summer! It has the floral pattern but it is more quiet and reserved. The dress is dark which helps the florals pop more. I love the way it flows and is not tight fitting so you will not have to worry about sweating in the summer heat! This is definitely a dress you can wear to lunch with the girls, on a casual date by the water, or even spice it up with some wedges like I did and wear it to a special event!

Now I know what you are thinking, “florals, how original”. Check out the newest patterns and you will find that there are so many ways to spice up the original floral look. Contrast it with a dark colored dress like mine or make it pop with some fun, bright colors but whichever style you choose, make sure to work it girl (:

Take the Plunge with a Bodysuit

Hello, beautiful! Happy Friday! Are you looking forward to the nice weather this weekend as much as I am?! Literally I feel like it has been raining for 40 days and 40 nights. At my day full time gig as an assistant buyer for Chadwicks of Boston we have been busy planning for spring/summer 2018 while wrapping up winter/holiday 2017 photo shoots. Anyway, let's get to this week's look.

This plunging top is actually a bodysuit! That's right it is one piece, every time I put it on it brings me back to ballet class. This bodysuit is from Tobi featuring a plunging v-neckline and a dolman sleeve. I love this piece because it is versatile, you could dress it up or dress it down. For this post I chose to dress it up with this skirt by Tribal. When I managed the boutique we sold this line, they have great quality items. The shoes (from DSW) sport a snake print giving this look a little pattern play.

This summer I plan on pairing this bodysuit with jean shorts for a more casual look. This is my first bodysuit since ballet in high school but I love it. This one even features snaps so it's easier to use the restroom. When wearing a plunging v-neckline I suggest wearing sticky boobs, like cups so the girls will stay in place.

Bodysuits are a trend worth getting into. Check more out on Tobi and get 50% off your first order! Well fash dolls, till next time.

Stay Sassy & God Bless!

Embroidered Boho Babe

Hi, beautiful! Happy Friday! I hope this post sees you well. We are gathered here today to discuss embroidery. If you haven't noticed it is one of the hottest trends of the season. You know that Frank's Red Hot Sauce commercial? The one where the sweet innocent old lady is like, "I put that sh*t on everything". Well embroidery like this woman & her frank's is literally on everything. This boho trend can be seen on dresses (as shown), skirts, jeans, pants, shoes, handbags, shirts, etc. I'm not kidding it is literally everywhere.

Embroidery can be found in a variety of colors and range from subtle to more prominent patterns. Whatever your flavor it is easy to find with the world at your finger tips. I am personally loving this dress from Tobi   that is on sale for only $29.00 and available in other colors. I have paired this dress with cognac wooden block heels from Metrostyle. This dress will definitely be a summer staple in my closet & will be packed in my suitcase for Ricky & I's vaca to Aruba in September.

Well fash dolls as always thank you for reading. I hope that my neon white skin didn't blind you too bad & that you leave feeling inspired to dabble in the boho inspired embroidery trend. It is definitely hanging around for the spring/summer 2018 season as the catalog I work on is already developing embroidered product. It will be worth the investment. Till next time dolls!

Stay Sassy & God Bless!

P.S. You can find other amazing pieces at Tobi & get 50% off your first order :)

Buttons Up

Hello, beautiful! Happy Friday! I hope your week has been super productive. I'm not going to lie to you I am super pumped about the long weekend. If you have been following along you know that I am an assistant buyer for Chadwicks of Boston. Not only are we wrapping up the winter/holiday 2017 season we have begun planning for spring/summer 2018 if you can believe that.

Anyway let's get to the real reason why we are here, the fashion.

Buttons up! (Haha see what I did there) Button front skirts have been a trend first seen in the fall & continuing into the warmer months. During the fall/winter we saw faux suede mini skirts with snap buttons. For the spring/summer I am seeing them in denim & other lighter fabrications.

I actually got this skirt about 7 years ago when I stepped into my first Zara. Which was not actually in the USA but Lisbon, Portugal. This skirt has been a spring/summer staple in my wardrobe. Typing this I honestly can't even believe I've had it for that long.

Completing this look is a ruffle knit tank, braided pink belt, & sky high wedges. The tank I actually got from the boutique I once managed, Daisy Riley in Plymouth, MA. The belt I believe I also got at Zara, I have wrapped the excess belt preventing it from flopping all over the place. And the shoes I got from DSW. I particularly love this skirt because it has pockets.

Not only will you be able to find the button front treatment on skirts but on dresses as well. It is a lovely spring/summer trend. How will you be wearing it?

Well fash dolls this concludes our post. I hope that you feel inspired to try the button front trend for yourself. Till next time!

Stay Sassy & God Bless!

Oshkosh Called, They want their Overalls Back

Hello, beautiful! Happy Friday! I hope this week has treated you well. I have one of my bestie's weddings this weekend & I can't wait to be able to stand next to her on her big day. The same friend inspired my to buy my first pair of overalls since my childhood. My second job in high school was as a sales associate at Oshkosh B'Gosh, you know the kids clothing store? Overalls were in high demand during my time there. Now they are one of the hottest trends for adults coming in overall skirts, pants, or shorts (pictured). Keep scrolling to see more details.

I love the overall shorts. I think they are a fun spring/summer trend. Easy for the weekend or to throw on over your bathing suit when you hit the beach for the day. This particular one piece I got from Macy's online, they literally only had once size left. My friend got hers from the GAP outlet.

For a fun yet casual look I have outfitted my overalls with a crop top, espadrille wedges, & a choker. No weekend warrior outfit is complete without a coffee in hand. In this outfit I feel like 90's grundge meets a hint of girl next door.

Maybe this trend isn't for you or maybe you want to give it a shot but are hesitant. If that is you I would suggest maybe starting out with the overall skirt. I feel like that is a smoother transition. Like dresses or jumpsuits overalls are a great throw & go instant outfit. Life can be crazy so simplicity is our friend.

Well fash dolls that concludes today's post. I hope my overall look has given you some outfit inspo. I find that it is always refreshing to go outside our outfit comfort zone. I definitely stepped out of mine with this look. Have a great weekend.

Stay Sassy & God Bless!
