Shaking things up for Fall with Devi

Hi Fash-ology community! I'm so excited to write a feature for this amazing site and share my Fall Fashion Finds & Trends with all of you! A little about me, I'm a mom of 3 (humans) and 1 four legged golden doodle (trying to make it 2 but my husband isn’t really going for the 2nd puppy idea)  from Dallas, Texas. I try to keep my fashion finds mom & LIFE friendly, easy, and comfortable.

As women we are always running around, we are multi tasking machines, right?  We all have days when we just don't want to put in the effort to get dressed, because our minds are so overwhelmed with everything we have going on we just “don’t want to think about it.”  As a mom of 3, there have been plenty of days where I have left the house in my bun, sweatpants and POSSIBLY residual mascara from the day before (thats if I even put make up on.) I GET IT.  I still have those days, I really do.

As I’m getting closer to 40 (eek) I’m trying to challenge myself and change habits so I can leave them behind in the 30’s chapter of my life and enter my 40’s with a renewed sense of self. So, on those days when I’m standing in my closet thinking - “ I just don’t have the energy to think about what I’m going to wear….” I force myself to remember this:

It takes just as much time and energy to put on a pair of sweatpants as it does a pair of jeans.

So I’m here to tell you, it’s okay to have that sweat pant, bun and residual make up day - and I’m also here to share with you some wardrobe staples that are cute, on trend, comfortable, EASY ways to feel put together, and budget friendly. Yes…..ALL OF THAT.

Flare/bell bottom jeans - under $80

The first fall trend I’m excited about it the comeback of the flare leg/bell bottom jean! This cut INSTANTLY elongates your legs, this petite girl will take all the help I can get. For all my fellow curvy girls out there - because the style of the jean is “curvy” to begin with, I personally feel this style of jean is the most flattering for us. For reference I’m under 5’2” I ordered these jeans in a “Short” and still need to wear heels.

Both of these jeans are from the same retailer, the only difference between the two is the distressing on the pant leg and the hemline. If you want to wear these to work or be a little more “dressed up” - I would suggest no distressing.

“Not So basic” Basics - under $40

If you are anything like me, throwing on a simple tee shirt is an easy way to leave the house. This season I have been drawn to the “not so basic” basics. I love the t shirts or tops that have some added interest in them through asymmetrical hemlines, cut outs and if you follow me on Instagram you know that I CANT SAY NO to a knotted tee! I think these tops just added a little extra something to what would normally be a basic tee shirt and jean kind of look.

The Bralette - under $40

The newest trend in layering - the bralette. It seems like this was just a natural progression in trends as unusual and asymmetrical necklines became more common, right? Usually we see bralettes being layered under tank tops with the option to put a cardigan over to make the look more seasonal - but the designer in me loved the idea of  layering it under this “not so basic” basic.

Layering with a bralette is also a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit. Take any top or sweater you may have that has an interesting neckline or is a traditional “of the shoulder, throw a bralette under it and it’s a completely different look!

Rules, neutrals and FUN

If there is anything you have noticed from my pictures, I hope it’s that the STATEMENT EARRING is where it’s at this season. A great pair of statement earrings can transform ANY outfit. You can use your earrings to set the tone for your entire look by adding a contrasting color, mixing metals or wearing a classic hoop.

Many people associate this time of year with neutral and warm colors. While I agree, wearing neutrals is safe and sometimes the way an outfit comes together, I also want to let you know this is the year to wear leopard as a neutral! I’m showing this green dress as a example of a look that could have gone either way. It’s more classic with the neutral platform heels I’m wearing in the picture, but the look would instantly become more edgy (and comfortable) had I paired it with my leopard flats. I encourage you to mix leopard in with patterns and have some fun with it! Treat is like a solid, neutral color and your looks with immediately transform.

The last thing I want to discuss ladies….lets just throw out the first “rule" of fall clothing :

white boots.jpg

“Don't wear white after Labor Day.”

Just NO. I know we were raised with this idea and habits are hard to break, but this one has GOT TO GO! If this rule was even a THING anymore…then why would my favorite shoe store be carrying this gorgeous WHITE fall bootie!?!?!? I see this and all the incredible white cardigans and jean and accessories  out there as a sign. We can and should wear white after labor day. And if anyone tells you that you are breaking an age old rule of fashion, just remind them that Coco Chanel broke it too.

These booties are perfect year round. Imagine them with a hot pink t shirt and jeans in the spring…..an off the shoulder sweatshirt and shirt for the fall and a pair of pleather leggings in the winter…..i could go on and on!

Bottom line - WEAR WHITE!!!!

Thank you again Fash-ology community for having me. I hope you found some inspiration in my words and looks!

XOXO,

Devi

Falling in Style with these 3 Transitional looks!

Hello, lovely! It is my last few days in the motherland & we are soaking up every bit! I am looking forward to getting back to you guys recharged & ready to serve you up some fashion goodness! Anyway I wanted to show you 3 of my favorite fall transitional looks & why I think they work.

IMG_5309.JPG
  1. Dress & Boots

I feel like it doesn’t get any easier than a dress & boots to look instantly chic while trying to navigate through the seasons. This allows you to show a little leg but also stay mostly covered so you don’t freeze your buns off.

IMG_0141.JPG

2. Cropped & Cool

If you know me you know I hate pants so I definitely utilize maxi skirts all year round. I pair this one with a crop top, denim jacket, perforated booties, & a nice fall hat. The denim jacket I can wear on or off like the scarf. The crop top just shows off a tiny bit of skin. The knot at the maxi allows me to breathe along with the perforated booties!

3. Sleeveless Sweater

The sleeveless sweater is underrated! I’m obsessed with this olive one. I paired it with my faux leather leggings, a scarf, & booties! The scarf is just the right weight to keep me warm if I get cold.

You probably noticed a trend here. Each look a little bit of skin is exposed. Not saying you need to expose your body for transitional style but it’s a balance. Spring/spring is all about bare legs & open toes. When fall comes we cover ourselves up. This transitional time can be difficult to determine what to wear. My rule of thumb is to have a balance! Give it a shot for yourself!

Well babes! I’ll be back in the states on 9/30! Talk soon!

Mock Neck Must Have

Happy Weekend Fash Dolls! I apologize for the little 2 week hiatus. A girl just needs a break sometimes especially in light of the election. I'm sure I'm not the only one that avoided social media this week.
Anyway let's move on to fashion! I have never been a super big turtleneck or mock neck* fan. I just felt restricted but as my personal style has grown I have learned to appreciate them & got over the restricted feeling. Turtlenecks & mock necks* have become fall/winter staple, it is a sophisticated look! I am personally loving the long sleeveless mock neck sweaters perfect for layering.

I have paired mine with some faux leather leggings. These leggings are a party in the front & business in the back as the back features a ponte knit fabrication. Completing the look are these wedge booties, scarf, & faux leather jacket. To make this more business professional the other day I swapped the faux leather jacket for a blazer for a work meeting.
Well Fash dolls I hope you were able to glean some fashion inspo. Always remember to stay true to your personal style because you are fabulous & beautiful. Till next time my friends!
Stay Sassy + God Bless!

*mock neck: is a more simple version of a turtleneck. It does not include the fold over fabric of a turtleneck.

Girl's Night Out

Happy Friyay Fash Dolls! We made it thru another week. A few weeks ago I had sent out a survey to get a sense of what you, my fabulous readers wanted to see. One response I got was girl's night out outfits. Well ask & you shall receive!

I saw this dress at Lord & Taylor when I was out shopping with my team for work. I fell instantly in love. I myself have always struggled with dressing for a girl's night out. My wardrobe consists predominantly of work clothes which can be too dressy or conservative for a GNO. When going out for a girl's night you typically want to look sexy yet classy. This dress is the perfect combination of just that. We've discussed before that when dressing you want to show off one part of your body whether it is a backless garment, shoulder less something, it could be a dress or skirt with a slit. The lace up of this dress is this  GNO's touch of spice. Keeping it classy is the dress silhouette, boots, & leather jacket.

I hope that this look inspired you for your next girl's night out! Till next time fash dolls.

Stay Sassy + God Bless!

Window Pane & Faux Leather: These are a few of my Favorite Things

[gallery ids="2167,2169,2170,2171,2172,2168,2173" type="rectangular"]

Hello fash dolls! Today's article title is inspired by none other than the Sound of Music. A couple of my favorite trends currently are window pane print & faux leather.
Window pane has been around for a couple of seasons but it looks like it's here to stay. This print is still prominent & was one of my best selling prints for the catalog I work on. I paired this window pane blouse with a flounce faux leather skirt. This skirt color is a great for fall. I love how flattering the shape is. Faux leather comes in many forms, it can be seen on skirts, leggings, vests, jackets etc. I completed this look with wedge back zip booties & a snake cross body.
Give windowpane or faux leather a whirl for yourself! These are 2 trends that have been around & are here to stay! Whether you were them together, separate, or just try one trend is entirely up to you. Don't forget to stay true to your personal style.
Well fash dolls till next time!

Let me Tell you Something About my Vest Friend

Happy Friday Fash Dolls! Although this week was a short one it was still just as busy as a full week. Let me take a minute to introduce you to my furry vest (best) friend, Audrey Hepburn Williams. She was finally ready to make her blog debut as the newest member of the Williams family! Anyway let's get to the fashion.

My favorite fall fashion item is a good flannel. I got this one at Macy's last year. Another item I am totally loving is the military inspired vest. This utilitarian chic number is perfect for fall actives like apple/pumpkin picking, hayrides, long walks with your dog, etc. It is fashionable yet functional. I love the fact that I have pockets to put my phone, keys, or even some money for hands free adventuring. This vest I got at my office's sample sale for only $3, what a steal?!

Well fash dolls I inspire you to find your own vest or flannel as they are the perfect fall pieces for your wardrobe.

Till next time!

Stay Sassy + God Bless!

Lace Up Your Dancing Top

Hi Fash dolls! I can hardly believe it's the last day of September. Maybe this isn't a dancing top but hopefully you got my pun.

Lace up is one of the hottest trends out there. Literally there is lace up on shirts, dresses, down sleeves, or like the neckline of this top. It's bananas but awesome! I found this little lace up top number at TJ Maxx online. I absolutely love this burgundy color for fall it's so rich. Did you catch the bell sleeve on this knit? Just another reason I feel for this top. The jeans are lucky brand which I found for a steal at TJ Maxx in store. I have a hard time finding pants because I'm short & curvy but these fit like a dream.

I challenge you to get a lace up something whether it be a top or dress in your wardrobe. You will certainly be able to find something within your budget & personality! Well dolls tills next time. Happy Shopping !

Stay Sassy + God Bless!

Twirl into Fall

Hi fash dolls! I hope this week has been treating you well. I did treat myself to a pumpkin spice latte as the air has been cool & crisp. There is no denying that fall is in the air. I think that every gal needs a dress to twirl into the new season.

This dress I actually got for $3 at my office’s sample sale. Good news for you! There is a ton of trapeze style t-shirt dresses like this one out there now. They make the perfect transition piece. I am wearing mine right now with open toe booties & a fabulous fall hat. When the colder months roll in you can pair a dress like this with tights, tall boots, & a fur vest!

Not to mention this dress is super comfortable. Pick up a dress like this for yourself; it is the perfect fall/winter staple.

Well till next time dolls!

Stay Sassy + God Bless!

Bohemian Beauty

Looking for a new trend to try? The bohemian style is back in full swing. This whimsical and carefree look is 70's inspired and I am definitely crushing on it. Boho babes like Rachel Zoe, Nicole Richie, and the Olsen twins have perfected this Woodstock chic look. To exude a bohemian flair try wide leg pants, bell sleeves, or floppy hats. I would also suggest trying suede, fringe, neutral floral prints, and flared jeans.

This breezy peasant dress is boho chic paired with stacked heeled boots. Peasant style necklines and sleeves also radiate a bohemian style. This muted floral print allows me to channel my inner flower child.

Whether you dip your toe in this trend or all full steam ahead make sure that you are making smart purchases. Look for things in your budget and personal style. This trend is everywhere and as mentioned earlier there is a variety of ways to try it. Well dolls I hope you enjoyed this week's look as much as I did. Stay tuned for more fashion and fun.

Stay Sassy & God Bless xo

Put Your Very Vest Forward

DSC_0738DSC_0742DSC_0702DSC_0691

DSC_0715DSC_0697

If you live in Massachusetts (even if you don't), you should be aware that it is going to hit the seventies on Monday. I repeat seventy degrees in October. No matter your location, New England is notorious for its unpredictable weather. A vest is a perfect way to keep up with the constantly changing atmosphere. Not only are vests a good transition piece but they are the latest trend. Right now you will see tailored vests which are super chic (and I am currently on the market for one myself) but this one is flowy and fun.

This vest I got at a little boutique in Connecticut on my way to one of my buying trips to NYC. I fell in love the neutral tie dye and the versatility of this piece. It is outfitted with black skinny jeans, booties, and a tank for this warmer weekend. Take it into winter by switching out the tank with a long sleeve black t-shirt and push it to summer by throwing it over a dress with sandals. The vest trend is here to stay and worth investing in. I favor this trend over others because the vest can truly be worn all year round. You are spending money on clothing and you want to make sure you are getting your monies worth! Vests are out there and you will be able to find one that perfectly fits your personality and budget. As always make sure it flatters your wonderful and unique shape.

Well dolls till next time! Happy shopping and enjoy this lovely weekend.

Stay Sassy xo

The Must Have Booties

DSC_0874DSC_0871DSC_0876

DSC_0865DSC_0855DSC_0873

DSC_0885DSC_0883

Hello October! Pumpkin spice is taking over, the leaves are turning colors, and the air is getting colder. Sadly it is time to put the sandals away to break out the boots. Although I love summer and like to think of myself as a mermaid you can't fight the inevitable, especially in New England. But I am not mad about it. I love scarves and I really love these booties! They are so versatile and comfortable. Booties are everywhere and easy to find. I found myself shopping at Kohl's one day while assisting a friend in finding the perfect new wardrobe additions. We of course had to browse thru the shoe department and as soon as we entered these babies where calling my name.

Here I have the booties paired with black skinnies, a chambray shirt, and an olive green jacket. Layering is key practice in the fall. Layers keep you warm but your office or home could be warm too so you can easily take off a layer or add one when necessary. There is no denying that booties are a fall must have, they are worth investing in. Like any clothing purchase make sure you find a pair that suits your style. Be you, be fabulous! See below another way to wear your booties.

Well dolls till next time. Happy Shopping!58
