How to Utilize your Wardrobe for St.Patrick's Day

Hello, babes! I hope this blog post sees you well. This weekend is St.Patick’s day, what are you up to? Ricky & I are actually going away for a little rest & relaxation which will be super nice. But, some of you probably have way cooler plans like parades, bar crawls, 5k’s etc.

So, you want to dress for St.Paddy’s day but don’t want to buy something special or want to avoid getting pinched for not wearing green? Let’s face, it buying something cheesy to wear for one day can be fun but I would much rather save my $$ & wear something I already own. Below you will find FIVE different looks that are already in my closet, all of which incorporate green! Festive, cost efficient, & chic! What more could a girl want?

Look #1: These mottos leggings are so fun & edgy. I simply paired them with a black & white flannel accompanied by my faux leather jacket. Completing the look with a statement chain necklace & black booties.

Look #2: I brought out my olive maxi skirt which is super comfortable. This is outfitted with a stripe crop top, denim jacket, & scarf. Topping off the look with a fun hat!

Look #3: It’s going to be a whopping 41 degrees in my town on Sunday, maybe I’ll be able to show off a little ankle in this midi dress. This look is simple yet casual, completed with sneaks & a utility vest.

Look #4: I absolutely love this camo jacket! I literally wear it once a week. But I have paired it with a graphic tee, jeans, & wedges. If you have an Irish-esc tee-shirt it would be fun to put it underneath a jacket like so. Hoping the weather is warm enough where you are to wear open toes!

Look 5#: I am obsessed with my olive tencel overalls. They have become a staple in my wardrobe but these are also a great wear to show Irish pride in a fashionable way. Here I have them back to my espadrilles & an off the shoulder top but can easily go back to a graphic tee.

Well, beauties! I hope these 5 looks have given you inspiration to flip through your existing wardrobe to create a chic St.Patrick’s day look! It doesn’t have to scream “kiss me, I’m Irish” but it will definitely avoid you from getting pinched by some random stranger at the bar. Till next time!

Shaking things up for Fall with Devi

Hi Fash-ology community! I'm so excited to write a feature for this amazing site and share my Fall Fashion Finds & Trends with all of you! A little about me, I'm a mom of 3 (humans) and 1 four legged golden doodle (trying to make it 2 but my husband isn’t really going for the 2nd puppy idea)  from Dallas, Texas. I try to keep my fashion finds mom & LIFE friendly, easy, and comfortable.

As women we are always running around, we are multi tasking machines, right?  We all have days when we just don't want to put in the effort to get dressed, because our minds are so overwhelmed with everything we have going on we just “don’t want to think about it.”  As a mom of 3, there have been plenty of days where I have left the house in my bun, sweatpants and POSSIBLY residual mascara from the day before (thats if I even put make up on.) I GET IT.  I still have those days, I really do.

As I’m getting closer to 40 (eek) I’m trying to challenge myself and change habits so I can leave them behind in the 30’s chapter of my life and enter my 40’s with a renewed sense of self. So, on those days when I’m standing in my closet thinking - “ I just don’t have the energy to think about what I’m going to wear….” I force myself to remember this:

It takes just as much time and energy to put on a pair of sweatpants as it does a pair of jeans.

So I’m here to tell you, it’s okay to have that sweat pant, bun and residual make up day - and I’m also here to share with you some wardrobe staples that are cute, on trend, comfortable, EASY ways to feel put together, and budget friendly. Yes…..ALL OF THAT.

Flare/bell bottom jeans - under $80

The first fall trend I’m excited about it the comeback of the flare leg/bell bottom jean! This cut INSTANTLY elongates your legs, this petite girl will take all the help I can get. For all my fellow curvy girls out there - because the style of the jean is “curvy” to begin with, I personally feel this style of jean is the most flattering for us. For reference I’m under 5’2” I ordered these jeans in a “Short” and still need to wear heels.

Both of these jeans are from the same retailer, the only difference between the two is the distressing on the pant leg and the hemline. If you want to wear these to work or be a little more “dressed up” - I would suggest no distressing.

“Not So basic” Basics - under $40

If you are anything like me, throwing on a simple tee shirt is an easy way to leave the house. This season I have been drawn to the “not so basic” basics. I love the t shirts or tops that have some added interest in them through asymmetrical hemlines, cut outs and if you follow me on Instagram you know that I CANT SAY NO to a knotted tee! I think these tops just added a little extra something to what would normally be a basic tee shirt and jean kind of look.

The Bralette - under $40

The newest trend in layering - the bralette. It seems like this was just a natural progression in trends as unusual and asymmetrical necklines became more common, right? Usually we see bralettes being layered under tank tops with the option to put a cardigan over to make the look more seasonal - but the designer in me loved the idea of  layering it under this “not so basic” basic.

Layering with a bralette is also a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit. Take any top or sweater you may have that has an interesting neckline or is a traditional “of the shoulder, throw a bralette under it and it’s a completely different look!

Rules, neutrals and FUN

If there is anything you have noticed from my pictures, I hope it’s that the STATEMENT EARRING is where it’s at this season. A great pair of statement earrings can transform ANY outfit. You can use your earrings to set the tone for your entire look by adding a contrasting color, mixing metals or wearing a classic hoop.

Many people associate this time of year with neutral and warm colors. While I agree, wearing neutrals is safe and sometimes the way an outfit comes together, I also want to let you know this is the year to wear leopard as a neutral! I’m showing this green dress as a example of a look that could have gone either way. It’s more classic with the neutral platform heels I’m wearing in the picture, but the look would instantly become more edgy (and comfortable) had I paired it with my leopard flats. I encourage you to mix leopard in with patterns and have some fun with it! Treat is like a solid, neutral color and your looks with immediately transform.

The last thing I want to discuss ladies….lets just throw out the first “rule" of fall clothing :

white boots.jpg

“Don't wear white after Labor Day.”

Just NO. I know we were raised with this idea and habits are hard to break, but this one has GOT TO GO! If this rule was even a THING anymore…then why would my favorite shoe store be carrying this gorgeous WHITE fall bootie!?!?!? I see this and all the incredible white cardigans and jean and accessories  out there as a sign. We can and should wear white after labor day. And if anyone tells you that you are breaking an age old rule of fashion, just remind them that Coco Chanel broke it too.

These booties are perfect year round. Imagine them with a hot pink t shirt and jeans in the spring…..an off the shoulder sweatshirt and shirt for the fall and a pair of pleather leggings in the winter…..i could go on and on!

Bottom line - WEAR WHITE!!!!

Thank you again Fash-ology community for having me. I hope you found some inspiration in my words and looks!

XOXO,

Devi

Jump{suit} On It

Hi babes! There is no denying that fall is approaching. The morning air is getting crisper & pumpkin spice is out! The weather doesn't change over night, it is a transition. Meaning you can't just swap out your summer clothes for your fall clothes September 1st, you need to ease into it because that is exactly what the weather is doing.

Jumpsuits are a great transition piece! This one is sleeveless but on the chillier days I can cover up my arms with a denim jacket & add a scarf. Bonus, this one has pockets. Polka dot & sleeveless not your cup of tea? Fear not fash doll! Jumpsuits are a trend that are here to stay, there are so many available to you. I was hesitant to try a jumpsuit because I am 5'2, I thought I was too short to pull this off! Shorties you can overcome this by getting your jumpsuit hemmed to your height.

Give jumpsuits a try for yourselves! Find a solid in a your go to color & your favorite sleeve length. Be bold, be you, be beautiful!

Well fash dolls till next time. Thank you for reading!

Stay Sassy + God Bless!

Utilitarian Chic

Utilitarian chic has been a trend since the birth of military inspired garments. These pants embody just that! There are great pockets which could be utilized but the fabric is light enough that these pants don't look too clunky.

I paired these with a white blazer, a tank, & some animal heels to add some edge! These cargos are comfy yet fabulous. I find that I typically have a hard time finding pants because I am short & curvy. These pants are suppose to be ankle length but full length on me, #shortgirlproblems. These beauties are from Metrostyle which is the women's apparel catalog I work on. Guess what? They are on sale!

Right now is an awesome time to shop stores and online because they are in the process of transitioning out the summer merchandise for fall.

Well dolls till next time! I am finishing up this post from the floor of an empty bedroom. Ricky & I are closing/moving into our first home today.

Kimono Krazy

Sugar, spice, & everything nice! This kimono has it all. This beautiful turquoise garment features sweet blooms & edgy skulls. Here I have it outfitted with a LBD & nude heel sandals. Topped off with a clutch & a long silver necklace, I am ready for dinner with the hubs or with the girls.

The kimono is a versatile piece. It can be worn over a tank with denim shorts for a more casual look or even over your swimsuit as a beach cover up. This kimono is from K Posh Boutique. This online boutique provides women with affordable & fabulous fashion. I have teamed up with K Posh to bring you 15% off your first order & free shipping by using my code >GIGI15<.

Try one of these lightweight kimonos for yourself! Wear them for 3 seasons, spring thru fall.

Till next time dolls. Happy Shopping!

Pattern Play

Nothing can brighten up your day quite like some fresh blooms! I am currently crushing on this pattern play dress! This floral & stripe number is from the catalog I work on,  Metrostyle. Did I mention it is under $50.00?!

I am a fan of mixing prints together but it can seem tricky. These prints work together because they are both bold & have common colors. There is also a lot of white giving the eye some relief.

Afraid of looking like a thrown together hot mess? Try staying within the same color family. Like I mentioned the prints pictured work because they both have black & white. The yellow brings a nice pop of color. Stripes are a good place to start because you can mix nearly anything with them. I never hesitate to add an animal print like cheetah. It can look lovely with stripes & window pane.

I think the most import thing to remember with mixing prints is to not be  afraid to take risks! If you look at yourself in the mirror & feel like you look disheveled take off what your wearing. Take your time until you find a combo you can feel chic in!

Well dolls till next time!

Dress Crush

Apparently I was an exceptionally good girl this past year because Santa brought me this fabulous dress! I love this little number so much it maybe my new favorite. As a no pants advocate I truly believe that every gal should have a favorite dress, something easy to throw on and go.

I have paired this Michael Kors number with a faux fur vest and completed the look with these stacked heel boots. This print is very 60's mod inspired the faux fur adds a touch of glam. I also love the way this dress fits. It flatters my figure and that is the goal, to get something that flatters your beautiful and unique figure.

I challenge you to go out and find your go to dress, something that fits your personality and figure. When you are on the go you won't regret having your own throw and go dress.

Till next time dolls! Happy shopping.

How to Dress for a Formal Event

One of my best friends went to a military academy for her college years. During her time there she had met her now husband. At this academy they had many formal events one of which I had the pleasure of attending. Since I started blogging every time I would see them he would remind me that I should write a post on how to dress for a formal event. So here we go.

What is a "formal dress"?

A formal dress is typically an elegant floor length evening gown. This one pictured I have worn as a maid-of-honor  to a wedding and as a date to a formal dinner. This dress is classic making it a timeless piece.

DSC_0647-3How to choose the perfect formal gown for you?

As mentioned prior a formal dress is typically floor length. I have seen some stunning hi-lo hems but it is important to know your audience where you are attending this formal event. Next make sure that it flatters your figure! This is extremely important because you want to feel comfortable and not self conscious during the event. Also, make sure that you aren't too exposed. A good rule to stick to is to show off one part of your body. This dress is strapless so seeing my shoulders is definitely enough skin. Maybe you want to go with a dress with a deep v make sure your front is covered. You aren't going to club. Color wise I would always suggest black or jewel tones. Rich reds or deep blues would make for a lovely gown. Not barbie pink.

What about accessories?DSC_0627-2

Once you have your dress it is time to accessorize. Make sure you don't over do the jewels. I am wearing a chunky pearl necklace here and could add a subtle bracelet. I could put my hair up and wear chandler earrings in which case I wouldn't need the necklace. I would suggest bringing a shawl incase you get chilly. Always bring a clutch to carry your phone, money, keys, a lipstick, etc. Lastly the shoes, make sure that you wear a pair of shoes you can stand and dance in all night long. You should never take your shoes off at a formal occasion. At some weddings the couple will provide flip flops but if you are at a formal work event keep your dancing shoes on. I repeat keep your shoes on.

Well these are my suggested tips for dressing for a formal event. Where ever you go get yourself dolled up and have fun! The holiday season is always filled with fun events. I always enjoy getting all dressed up from time to time. My next formal event is Ricky & I's wedding!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas! Or Happy Holidays whatever you celebrate enjoy this season with your loved ones.

Thankful for Sangria

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their Thanksgiving weekend with loved ones. Although I am thankful for many things everyday this time of year I find myself really reflecting on how truly blessed I am. Of course I am grateful for my family but nothing quite gets you thru the holidays like sangria, the color.

This color compliments nearly every skin tone and is festive. Here I have this sangria button up blouse styled with a faux fur vest and skinnies. You could give this color a shot in many ways. Try some sangria colored tights, handbag, dress, pants, etc. This color is rich and worth the a shot! Wear it to your next holiday party.

Well dolls till next time, happy shopping! Try not to stress during this time of year. It is suppose to be a time of joy so hold your loved ones close.

Give your Boyfriend's Closet a Try

If you are single, fear not! Sometimes taking a style note from the guys isn't a bad thing. The boyfriend trend has been around for some time. Now  I am not saying to go shopping in the men's department (but I am not going to stop you either). What is the boyfriend look? It is a bit more of a relaxed, looser, boxier fit.

Shown is a longer more boxier boyfriend blazer with a feminine twist which is the animal print roll cuff. The jeans are also a more relaxed boyfriend fit feminized with heels. The key to pulling off the "boyfriend" look is to always add a hint of feminism. I balanced this look with this awesome bow bag.

Boyfriend + Feminine Twist = One chic look

This is a really simple way to put together a chic outfit. Give it a try for yourself, you won't regret it! Happy Styling!

Scarf Staples

IMG_0232DSC_0842DSC_0823

Looking to update your wardrobe but not trying to break the bank? Scarves are definitely a solution to your problem. Scarves range in price and are available in a wide range of styles and fabrications. Not only is there a surplus of scarves attainable by an exchange of currency but there is also a variety of ways to tie these versatile accessories. Each way to wear can elevate your ensemble and make your outfit look different. I have pictured 3 different ways to tie a scarf.

DSC_0817

The Basic Loop

This style is the most common and simple way to tie a scarf. Drape 1/4 of the scarf and take the remaining 3/4 and wrap it around your neck and let the other end drape. An effortless and chic look!

DSC_0833DSC_0832

The Vest Editors note-I am using the same scarf throughout this entire post. How cool is this vest look? And it can be accomplished by the same scarf used in the basic loop. To accomplish this look start by folding your scarf in half then tie the folded end with the ends of the scarf. This will create armholes, simple throw it on and go!

DSC_0827

The Pretzel

This scarf tie is the most complex out of the three. Take your scarf in half then take one end and pull it thru the loop. Then take the second end and go under thru the loop. Adjust accordingly. This look is cozy and draws the attention closer to the neck. You would want to use this style when wearing a simple top.

I hope these steps help and if you have any questions feel free to email me at fashology101@gmail.com, I am happy to answer any questions. As a bride-to-be on a tight budget I know personally I have been utilizing the versatility of scarves to elevate my wardrobe. Have fun with it and happy shopping! Till next time dolls.

Feeling Fringe

DSC_0623DSC_0632DSC_0652DSC_0678

DSC_0646DSC_0653

Currently fringe is one of the hottest trends out there. These shredded hemlines can be seen on accessories, footwear, dresses, sweaters, etc. Fringe can add an unexpected edge to any ensemble. Here I gave my fringe a bit of a fierce meets 90's grunge vibe. I paired this Joplin Wolfepack with a flannel, black skinnies, and killer cheetah heels.

Trends can be risky business and how much you buy into it depends on your fashion personality. Fringe fits mine perfectly so I would invest in this trend like purchasing this bag from Gina DeWolfe. If you are more on the conservative side I would suggest starting with an inexpensive piece. Dip your toe with a small cross body or any other accessory. Fringe is HOT and it looks like it is here to stay for a few seasons. Give it a shot for yourself!

Happy Shopping!

DSC_0764DSC_0784DSC_0760

When a backpack comes to mind the first thing that crosses ones mind is a school bag filled with books, binders, and pens. One of the hottest trends that is here to stay is the backpack. They are no longer just an item for school kids but, a fabulous and functional accessory for the ladies. They are a great update to a handbag and allow for hands free adventuring. I am smitten with this bag, the wolfepack by Gina deWolfe. This Boston designer hand crafts each piece out of genuine leather hides. The style is minimalistic making it versatile piece with impeccable quality. The wolfepack is an investment piece that is a wardrobe addition made to last. This bag will add instant chic to any ensemble.

I paired the wolfepack with this asymmetric dress, studded boots, and a faux leather jacket. I can't bring myself to wear tights just yet. This dress is flattering to my shape and these boots are my favorite. The combination of the wolfepack and boots adds edge to this look.

Feel free to check out Gina deWolfe's website and get a wolfepack of your own, you won't regret it! If you want to dip your toes into the backpack trend search for one that suits you, they are out there. But like I said this one is hard to pass up! Whatever you add to your wardrobe make sure it fits your style personality, lifestyle, and budget. Keep in mind that any good handbag is an investment and with any purchase make sure you will be getting a good cost per wear. Till next week dolls. Happy shopping!

Put Your Very Vest Forward

DSC_0738DSC_0742DSC_0702DSC_0691

DSC_0715DSC_0697

If you live in Massachusetts (even if you don't), you should be aware that it is going to hit the seventies on Monday. I repeat seventy degrees in October. No matter your location, New England is notorious for its unpredictable weather. A vest is a perfect way to keep up with the constantly changing atmosphere. Not only are vests a good transition piece but they are the latest trend. Right now you will see tailored vests which are super chic (and I am currently on the market for one myself) but this one is flowy and fun.

This vest I got at a little boutique in Connecticut on my way to one of my buying trips to NYC. I fell in love the neutral tie dye and the versatility of this piece. It is outfitted with black skinny jeans, booties, and a tank for this warmer weekend. Take it into winter by switching out the tank with a long sleeve black t-shirt and push it to summer by throwing it over a dress with sandals. The vest trend is here to stay and worth investing in. I favor this trend over others because the vest can truly be worn all year round. You are spending money on clothing and you want to make sure you are getting your monies worth! Vests are out there and you will be able to find one that perfectly fits your personality and budget. As always make sure it flatters your wonderful and unique shape.

Well dolls till next time! Happy shopping and enjoy this lovely weekend.

Tasteful Tulle

DSC_0810DSC_0813DSC_0828DSC_0845

DSC_0817DSC_0818DSC_0850

It was Christmas time last year and a brunette had found herself longing for the perfect tulle skirt. She couldn't find one anywhere that had the quality and price she desired. The brown haired girl forgot about the skirt for a while until she got engaged. That brunette was me and I knew that for my engagement photos I had to get my hands on a tulle skirt. I finally found one at Tobi.

Now buying something for just one occasion isn't my style or financially responsible. I am the type of shopper that likes to get the most for my money. The outfit pictured is a tasteful way to wear tulle. I paired it with this chambray shirt, pearls, & awesome BCBG heels. I would wear this out to dinner with friends or restyle it for a holiday party. I also plan on wearing this to my bridal shower. Tulle can give off a romantic and feminine look. Give it a shot for yourself! Channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw. How ever you decide to style your tulle don't forget to always express who you are. Fashion is fun don't be afraid to try new things.

Well dolls till next time. Check out this photo of how I styled the skirt for Ricky and I's engagement shoot.WIL0089

Thirsty for Sangria

IMG_0739-14IMG_0716-1IMG_0757-22IMG_0754-21IMG_0718-2IMG_0764-26

"Sangria, an exotic red that evokes a sense of glamorous adventures and faraway destinations..." (Pantone)

Sangria is smooth, fruity, and delicious; making it one of my favorite drinks. Not only is it an enjoyable beverage consumed by many, it happens to be a chic color that is making a splash this fall. According to the world's color authority, Pantone, Sangria is one of the "it" colors for fall. This beautiful deep red does not wash you out and looks great on most skin types. To give you some inspiration, pictured is a variety of clothing pieces in the latest color trend. Want to give this shade a taste test? Interested in playing with Sangria but, feel a little hesitant experiment with accessories. I would suggest trying a scarf, statement necklace, earrings, tights, or a handbag! When wearing Sangria colored clothing you can accessorize with either silver or gold jewelry. This color is rich and perfect for fall. I dare you to give Sangria a fashion sip!
