Hello darling! I hope you had a fantastic weekend. Last weekend I attended the Voge Fashion Runway Show at The W Hotel in Boston. This amazing event was hosted by Joshua Steele from Dirty Water News and Bianca Golden from America’s Next Top Model! The night started with a wonderful trunk show featuring many designers and boutiques including Decontie & Brown, BusyDayShopping and Ruby Mac, as you all may know from Project Runway Junior!
After the trunk show, the lights dimmed, the music started and the fashion show began! The first collection was BusyDayShopping and they showcased their new jewelry and clothing line. The pieces were amazing and full of the latest trends such as lace up tops and embroidered dresses. Along with their clothing, they showed off some of their beautiful jewelry including body chains and tiaras. Seriously, you need to check them out!
While we waited for the next designer, the lovely Lunara Devers swept the stage showing us her ballet and modern dance moves. She graduated from Boston Arts Academy and currently has two rehearsal spaces in Lawrence and Boston. She is extremely talented and it was an amazing experience to watch her strut her stuff on the runway!
After the wonderful dancing, we witnessed the collection Just Bodied by the beautiful Britain Andrews. Her collection was fabulous and full of bright colors, crazy patterns, oh and tulle! She told us that she was inspired by herself and began creating her own clothing at a young age. After getting many compliments from friends and family, she began to create more unique pieces and eventually started her business.
Next up was ShyWalk Collections with their Indian party bridal wear. This was their first debut show and what a fantastic job they did! Shyla Abbimutt currently works full time as a Project Manager at IT, but decided to be bold and pursue her fashion career with this new collection. Back to the collection, the pieces were stunning! Full of color and elegance, it would be the perfect place to find a wedding dress if the traditional white isn't your style! Go check it out!
Devikar Styles collection was next to walk the runway. They have been featured in Today’s Black Woman, Heart & Soul and Ocean Style magazine. They have also been showcased at New York Fashion Week as well as Virginia Fashion Week. The clothing was beautiful and very unique, taking traditional suits and spicing them up with patterns and gold trims. Models also wore masks which was the perfect touch as their clothing line phrase is “Clothing For A New Identity.”
Up next was the jewelry brand Decontie & Brown. The company was started by a husband and wife who drew inspiration from their tribal heritage. They specialize in unique, handcrafted jewelry that has a Native American influence. The jewelry is created in Bangor, Maine at their jewelry studio. How awesome is that?! All of the pieces were stunning and the fact that they are handmade makes them that much more valuable and fun to wear!
The second to last designer was the wonderful Kerley Benard displaying her Envieux collection. Her brand is all about promoting confidence and celebrating a woman’s body. She wants every woman wearing her pieces to feel bold, fearless and desirable. The clothing was fabulous and bold, with exotic colors and cuts. Her looks were unique and fun, keeping the audience intrigued the whole time! I would definitely recommend looking at her collection!
Last but not least, the star of the show, Ruby McAloon! She was a Project Runway Junior designer at just 14 years old! She works alongside her local theater company creating costumes for productions as well as creating her own clothing line. Her clothing was trendy and fun, involving many of the current trends such as velvet, leather and a combination of both! At such a young age, she inspires people to continue following their dreams and proving that you can do anything if you put your mind to it!
Well, that’s all I have for you today babe, till next time!
